Townhouses to be built in ‘cool’ Mabgate area in Leeds

Posted on Mar 10, 2021 by Natalie Phillips

Leeds property developer, Countrylarge, has announced that it has applied for planning to build eight townhouses on Lower Brunswick Street in Leeds, which sits within the upcoming Mabgate area; voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the UK, by Conde Nast Traveller magazine.

The company recently acquired three sites on the street, off market, through Fox Lloyd Jones. Although the sites already had planning for two four-storey apartments blocks and four three-bed townhouses, Countrylarge is now working on proposals to replace one of the apartment blocks with four, two-bed townhouses, with the third area earmarked for parking.

If the plans are passed, work is due to begin on site mid-2021, with prices for the finished houses starting at £295,000.

Commenting on the revised plans, Antony Rosindale of Countrylarge, said,

“With apartments dominating the residential scene in Leeds, we wanted to create something different, with townhouses certainly a rarity in such a central location.

“The scheme has been designed with a post-pandemic environment in mind, and we have been working closely with our architects to ensure all homes have workspaces and external terraces. Indeed, everything you would expect in a suburban location but in the city centre.”

Nick Salkeld, director of Fox Lloyd Jones, added,

“Lower Brunswick Street is in the heart of a vibrant and trendy part of Leeds with its location between North Street, with its popular bars and restaurants, and transitioning Mabgate.

“The area is developing its own community with former offices and warehouses being converted into apartments and houses, alongside modern purpose-built flats. FLJ was also recently involved in the sale of 71-75 Mabgate to HBD (Henry Boots), which will be redeveloping the 60,000 square foot across the buildings.

“The townhouses proposed by Countrylarge will be the perfect addition to the offering with the potential to bring families into the area.”
